The outgoing year was marked by advancements in all Banuba’s products. Through deeper integration of AI, improving the existing technologies, and adapting them to new use cases, we were able to better serve our customers, as well as finding a fit with new domains.
Face AR SDK
The most notable additions and improvements to our main products were these:
Updated background replacement.
Banuba’s background subtraction technology has already been one of the best on the market. The 2025 updates made it even more precise at the edges of a person’s body, making them blend naturally with the new backdrop.
It has also received many under-the-hood improvements resulting in reduced CPU usage and up to 10 times better performance on certain devices.
Gender detection
The neural networks in Face AR SDK can now reliably detect the person’s gender. This technology can be helpful for in-store analytics, product recommendations, and other use cases.
Improved hair and teeth segmentation
Our neural networks have become better at detecting and processing parts of the human body.
The hair segmentation in Face AR SDK has become more accurate in complex cases like partially-covered strands or with the background containing items of similar hue to the hair.
Teeth segmentation has also received an update, making it more precise. Now the bleaching simulation works faster and almost never affects areas that it shouldn’t.
Face shape detection
To improve our recommendation system, we have implemented face shape detection. This allows our neural networks to tailor the suggestions more precisely, which means your users will be even more satisfied with their purchases.
GreenBee success story
GreenBee is a major Japanese software development company with multiple Fortune 500 brands in its client list. Seizing on the AI boom, it has decided to adapt its video calling application to Neural Processing Units (NPUs). Banuba was the best fit for this task thanks to our long partnership with GreenBee and extensive knowledge of AI. As a result, the app became much more energy-efficient–an important feature for software that mostly gets installed on laptops.
Video Editor SDK/API
Video Editor SDK/API has received many nice features that our clients’ users fell in love with:
AI clipping
AI clipping is an innovative feature that helps people create shareworthy content quickly, even if they have no experience in video editing. Specially trained neural networks automatically combine three or more videos into one, selecting the most important moments of each and matching them to the beat of the music track. It is quick, easy, and convenient for anyone.
Weatherman mode
Weatherman mode is a version of background replacement. It allows users to drag and drop their image to any place on the screen, just like TV presenters used to. This is a useful feature for making explainer videos, microlearning content, reactions, and other similar videos.
This feature works in both Face AR SDK (for example, during video calls) and in Video Editor SDK.
New UI
The new interface includes lots of quality-of-life features: undo/redo, replace masks/stickers, multi-video captions, and more. This isn’t flashy, but it massively improves the user experience.
Drafts
Now users can save their progress on a video as a draft and come back to it later. Not only is it convenient, but it also improves the overall quality.
Finger drawing
This tool lets users freely draw on top of videos. From pointing out important things or visually improving explainers to adding funny doodles, the only limit to its use is imagination. No wonder it has been one of the most requested additions from our customers.
Templates
Templates are premade sets of content, music, transitions, and other effects. Simply replace whatever you want with your own choices, and you’ll get a shareworthy video. Together with AI clipping, this makes Banuba Video Editor SDK a very user-friendly tool for content creation.
New success stories
Elixir is an app that aims to bring convenient and reliable video shopping to the Middle East. To quickly integrate everything their users need to create short videos, its developers decided to integrate the Video Editor SDK. This proved to be a good idea as in 4 weeks, 569 stores have begun to sell through this platform, and 4800 users signed up.
Fureelz developers decided to focus their short video-based platform on pets and other animals. Thanks to quick integration of Banuba Video Editor SDK, they were able to get to market much faster than expected. The app has received positive feedback from users, and the audience is steadily increasing.
TINT virtual try-on platform
TINT, our flexible virtual try-on platform for makeup, hair color, nails, accessories, and other items, has also been improved.
Shopify plugin
Owners of online stores on Shopify can now install TINT in a couple of clicks thanks to the Banuba Shopify plugin. As this platform is market leader in eCommerce, having a compatible extension for it expands the number of shops that can benefit from virtual try-on.
AI makeup digitization
TINT Shopify plugin allows online store owners to automatically create digital cosmetics by using generative AI. The process is seamless:
- A user selects products from their catalog
- Artificial intelligence processes everything
- Cosmetics become available for try-on
This addition makes virtual try-on even more accessible, especially for online shops with a large inventory.
DIY glasses digitization
Eyewear frames have also become easy to adapt for VTO. Just three photos are enough for TINT to create a realistic digital model that the user can then adjust so that it fits as it should.
New virtual try-on product types
One of the common use cases for Face AR SDK is developing virtual try-on applications. In 2025, we added new kinds of products that it can support:
- Headphones. True-to-life digital models that fit the user’s head perfectly.
- Veneers & braces. Thanks to Banuba’s advanced rendering and teeth segmentation, these products fit well and look lifelike.
- Wigs. Thanks to Banuba’s hair segmentation technology, they seamlessly fit any person’s hairstyle and look as natural as the real thing.
- Combined products. Various additional items that don’t fit any established categories, e.g. swimming caps with goggles or professional eyewear.
Eyewear lens replacement
To achieve deeper customization, TINT now lets users change not just the frames, but the lenses as well. If your store offers such service, feel free to use this feature and see customers come back again and again.
Gloss & Chameleon effects
The try-on feature now supports new effects for eyeshadows, lipstick and lip gloss. This will expand the number of items available for users to check out virtually. Which means there will be more opportunities for merchants to make a sale.
Makeup kits
Now online stores that run TINT can bundle multiple items into a single product: a makeup kit. This bundle could be applied with one click and checked out as a single item. This is convenient for users and helps increase the average order value.
Expanded analytics
TINT Shopify plugin now boasts an expansive analytics suite. It lets merchants track dozens of parameters, from individual product performance to add-to-cart rate and conversion. It will also show the current and projected try-on session expenditure so that the store owner knows whether they need to change their subscription to meet the demand.
Contem1g, a Brazilian beauty brand, was one of the companies that benefited from integrating TINT. One of their customers’ main problems was choosing the perfect shade of foundation and concealer, so the management decided to address it with virtual try-on. This coincided with the launch of the new Glow Filter product line. With TINT, the new product became the top revenue generator and the buyers were pleased with the new functionality.
Case study: Loncolor
Loncolor is a Romanian hair dye manufacturer. It wanted to give its customers a virtual try-on experience for convenience and confidence, so the management hired Bucharest-based Scorpion Technology to create the appropriate app. Banuba’s Face AR SDK was the best foundation for it, thanks to its ease of use, quality segmentation, and flexibility. New Banuba Studio
To help our clients make effects quickly and easily, we have released a new version of Banuba Studio, a free web-based editing tool.
